A three-car accident in Box Elder has killed a third person.

On Monday morning, a third person died in Box Elder County in a car accident. One of the people in the passenger car that was in the accident died at the hospital after being taken there. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the trouble started at 12:30 p.m. when two semi-trucks crashed near milepost 357 on northbound Interstate 15 in Willard. According to Sgt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol, “we had a jackknifed semi on one side and a box truck on another,” which caused traffic to back up in this area.

The witness said, “A semi was coming up behind us, but it couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting a red passenger car, which then pushed that car into a number of other cars.” At the scene of the crash, both the driver of the first truck and the driver of the red car were found to be dead. The person riding in the red car was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but they died later that afternoon.

Monday, the highway was closed for most of the day because of the accidents. Roden said that this accident involves a total of three big trucks. It will take them a while to get rid of all of these cars, which means that cleaning up will take a while. Then, UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden talked about how bad the crashes that have happened this winter have been.
