According to an email sent to Global News, “the SIU is investigating after a police officer fatally shot a man today.” According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a Toronto Police officer was dispatched when a concerned citizen saw a man in need at the rear of Shoppers World on Danforth Avenue close to Victoria Park at around midday. A man was shot by police after an interaction, according to the investigation. A male in critical condition was taken by paramedics, they reported. Later, he passed away while receiving medical care. A witness told Global News that the suspect “quite quickly” approached the police officer. The officer repeatedly told him to put down the weapon, the witness stated. He did not put down the gun, sir. The policeman took rapid steps to withdraw. And if I recall correctly, he made an effort to turn back and check if there was anywhere else he could escape to. After the suspect “really sped up his walking pace,” the witness claims the police officer brandished a weapon. Apparently, the officer “gave him some further warnings to drop the weapon,” as stated by the eyewitness. The man “kept walking at a rapid pace right at the police officer, and the officer fired two shots at him,” the witness claimed. The eyewitness claimed he saw two bullet holes in the man’s stomach.
