Joseph, known to many as Joe, was not only a devoted family man but also a pillar of the community, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Joe’s journey began when he founded Spiegelhoff Insurance in 1981, working tirelessly out of the basement of his house on Wheeler Street in Lake Geneva. His commitment to building his business was unwavering, even as a young family tried their best to stay quiet upstairs.

Starting as a scratch agent primarily focused on life insurance, Joe’s dedication led him to transition into property and casualty insurance. One of Joe’s proudest moments was passing the torch to his two sons, Joshua and Luke Spiegelhoff, who took over the agency in 2014. Watching his sons carry on his legacy was a source of great joy and pride for Joe, and he wished for more time to work alongside them. In addition to his successful business endeavors, Joe served his beloved community in various ways. He was a long-time insurance agent, a dedicated member of the school board for Joint 1 in Lake Geneva, and a philanthropist who generously gave back to numerous organizations and charities.

During his retirement, Joe split his time between Fort Myers, Florida, and Lake Geneva, enjoying the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He cherished the moments spent with his boys and shared countless memorable experiences, whether it was enjoying life or indulging in his passion for his much-loved Model A.
