Peter Olds Obituary, A Well Known Poet In Dunedin Public Libraries Dies – Death EternalTributesOnline, September 1, 2023 Peter Olds Obituary, Death – The life of Peter Olds has ended. Peter Olds (1944-2023) was born in Christchurch, although he made Dunedin his home over the course of his life. He spent all of his time strolling around the city, always gathering ideas and phrases in his thoughts that he later used to compose amusing, clever, and edgy poetry about this wonderful place. He rewrote “On the Road” in the style of Jack Kerouac, but he did it in his own unique way. Roger Hickin of Cold Hub Press released “Out of the Jaws of Wesley: 1944-1972 a record” in 2022. This book was written about the period of time between 1944 and 1972. A plaque bearing Olds’ name was added to the Dunedin Writers’ Walk on the 18th of February, 2022. This was done to honor the contributions that Olds made to both the city of Dunedin and to the literary landscape of New Zealand. At one point in time, the publisher Hickin referred to him as Dunedin’s “unofficial poet laureate.” He had previously held the position of Robert Burns Fellow at the University of Otago (1978), and he was also the first recipient of the Janet Frame Literary Award. His works include titles such as Lady Moss Revived (1972), V-8 Poems (1972), The Snow and the Glass Window (1973), Doctor’s Rock (1976), a response to the poem Letter to Peter Olds (1972) written by his friend James K. Baxter (1972), In the Dragon CafĂ© (2007), and Under the Dundas Street Bridge (2012). You are the perfect candidate; in 2014, a curated collection of poems was made available to the public. Obituary
