Vonie Dondero Obituary, Death – We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Vonie Dondero, a beloved member of the St. Moritz Ice Skating Club (SMISC), on August 30, 2023. Vonie, aged 94, peacefully departed in her sleep while in hospice care. Her legacy within our club and the broader ice skating community is nothing short of extraordinary. Vonie’s association with SMISC spanned an astounding 84 years, almost as long as our club’s own history since its establishment in 1931. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role, serving as our test chair for over four decades and contributing her expertise as a board member for many years. Her unwavering commitment and dedication to our club’s growth and success were unparalleled.

Beyond her administrative roles, Vonie was a distinguished judge and National accountant for over 40 years. Her keen eye and impartial judgment enriched countless competitions, leaving a lasting impact on the sport of ice skating. Her invaluable insights and guidance were sought after by skaters, coaches, and fellow judges alike. Vonie’s passion for skating extended beyond the judges’ table. She began her journey in the world of figure skating as a singles skater from a young age, displaying a remarkable talent and dedication. In addition to her solo pursuits, she was one of the founding members of the IceSymmetrics synchronized skating team, further showcasing her versatility within the sport.
